Youth to Youth Drug-Free Conference

Teen Health Connection is partnering with Youth to Youth International to host the first annual Southern States Conference at Queen's University from July 19-22, 2016 for rising 8th- 12th graders.

Youth to Youth is the recognized national leader for engaging youth in positive change. This conference is designed to provide teens from across the country with the skills and information necessary to avoid the dangers of substance use, remain drug-free, build healthy lifestyles, and be a positive influence on other teens in their community. The Southern States Conference will make this training more accessible to residents in the Southeast.
By attending this four day conference, adolescents will meet and befriend drug-free teens from all over the country, develop skills to make healthy and positive life choices, attend interactive and informative workshops, hear nationally known speakers, develop action plans to create change in their schools and communities and learn vital leadership qualities and skills that they can use for a lifetime, and most importantly, HAVE FUN!
The conference and applications can be found on the Teen Health Connection and Youth to Youth websites through the links below:

Standardized Testing Update

Below is an update from Columbia University regarding their standardized testing requirements.
Juniors, be sure to research the requirements for the schools to which you plan to apply!

Greetings from Morningside Heights!

As your juniors begin to engage more meaningfully with their college search, we wanted to make sure that you are familiar with Columbia's revised standardized testing requirements:
  • Columbia will no longer require the writing section on either the SAT or ACT exam.
  • Candidates applying for entry in Fall 2017 or Fall 2018 may choose to submit scores from either the newly redesigned SAT or the former iteration. When evaluating applicants, we will consider only the highest testing results ("super score") reported from one version of the test, not across both versions.
  • Candidates will no longer be required to submit scores from SAT Subject Tests.
Standardized tests are simply one component of our holistic admissions review, in which quantitative credentials are assessed within the broader context of an applicant's interests, background, personal qualities and accomplishments. We hope the increased flexibility with our application will ease some of the stress students may feel when going through the college admissions process.

We are so grateful for all the work you do on behalf of students and we look forward to collaborating with you again in the future.

Best wishes,

Jessica Marinaccio
