Coolidge Scholarship - Full Ride to any accredited American University

Coolidge Scholars Program

The Coolidge Scholarship is an annually awarded, full-ride, presidential scholarship that covers a student’s tuition, room, board, and expenses for four years of undergraduate study. The Coolidge may be used by recipients at any accredited American college or university. Anyone of any background, pursuing any academic discipline of study, may apply to this non-partisan, need-blind, program.
Students apply for the Coolidge Scholarship during their junior year of high school. Finalists are flown in for a finalist weekend at the Coolidge Historic Site in Plymouth Notch, Vermont where they interview with the Coolidge Scholars Finalist Jury. Recipients of the Coolidge Scholarship are notified of their award in late May of their junior year, before college application (note: current high school seniors are not eligible to apply).
Calvin Coolidge worked hard in academics; the young New Englander’s only sport was public speaking, often on public policy. The main criterion that distinguishes Coolidge Scholars therefore is academic excellence. Secondary criteria include: demonstrated interest in public policy; an appreciation for the values Coolidge championed; as well as humility, service, and leadership.
More information concerning the Coolidge Scholars Program, including the application, is available at: Coolidgescholars.org.

Sweet Briar College - High School Girls

Sweet Briar launches Explore Entrepreneurship

Weekend for high school girls

Sweet Briar is launching an addition to its popular Explore Weekend series of events for high school sophomore, junior and senior girls: Explore Entrepreneurship, Oct. 26-27.
“Many of the world’s problems and game-changing products started out as ideas written on the backs of napkins,” says Timothy Schauer, associate professor of business and director of the new weekend event. “This event gives high school girls the opportunity to brainstorm ideas and explore what is possible.”
Attendees will work in teams with Sweet Briar professors and business students in a hands-on, fun environment. After brainstorming, they’ll analyze the feasibility of their ideas, develop a business model, and prepare and perform a pitch. It will be a memorable experience that will give participants a foundation in solving problems, exploring their interests, developing new ideas and creating value.
Outside of class, attendees will stay in one of Sweet Briar’s historic residence halls with business student mentors, explore campus and get a taste of college life.
The weekend gets started on Friday, Oct. 26, with an optional campus tour at 4 p.m. followed by dinner and a program introduction. Throughout the day on Saturday, Oct. 27, attendees will do group work. No experience is needed to participate. At the end of Saturday, teams of students will present their business models to family and friends.
The cost of the event is $90 and includes room and board, snacks, supplies and a T-shirt. Register online by Oct. 1 for highest priority. Space is limited.
Visit sbc.edu/explore for more information about the other Explore events this year or contact Rebecca Girten at 434-381-6447 or rgirten@sbc.edu.

UNC Chapel Hill

UNC Chapel Hill has made a decision to no longer defer students who apply by Carolina's Early Action deadline. Instead students will receive one of three decisions: admitted, denied, or waitlisted.

Here is an easy resource for you that explains what this change might mean to students. We've developed a list of frequently asked questions about the waitlist, with more details about why we're making this change and how we hope it can provide clarity for students and help them make the best decisions they can for their futures.

Sincerely,

Office of Undergraduate Admissions

William & Mary Pre-College Summer Program in Early American History

Pre-College Summer Program in Early American History

Not your typical history class...

This unique program offers students an opportunity to live and study at the College of William & Mary for three weeks during the summer.  Students will earn four hours of transferable college credit studying early American history right where it happened.
What sets the program apart from your typical history class is that students will travel daily to the museums, battlefields, archaeology sites, homes, and places where history lives.  Come face to face with professional historians and curators.  Learn not only the history of America but also what's being done to preserve it.  Participate in an active archaeological dig and get your hands dirty looking for 18th-century artifacts.
