Michael A. DeMayo Scholarship

The DeMayo Law Offices will be awarding $37,500 in college scholarships to 15 high school seniors who reside and attend schools in counties served by the firm. North Carolina counties include: Mecklenburg, Gaston, Catawba, Union, Cabarrus, Cleveland, Lincoln, Rowan, Caldwell, Stanly, Iredell, Alexander, Burke, Robeson, Scotland, Richmond, Anson and Cumberland. South Carolina counties include: York, Lancaster, Chesterfield, Marlboro and Dillon. The deadline for applications is March 23, 2015.

To qualify, students must have applied for full-time enrollment at a four-year university or college and return the 2015 application packet to the DeMayo Law Offices by March 23, 2015. Scholarships will be awarded based on the student’s submission, SAT scores, transcripts, letters of recommendation, community service initiatives and extracurricular activities. Winners will be announced on May 1, 2015.

AABE Scholarship

The American Association of Blacks in Energy is a professional organization of African Americans in the energy industry. Through its Scholarship Program, AABE seeks to help increase the number of African Americans, Hispanics and Native Americans (underrepresented minorities) in energy related fields. By doing so, we help our nation address a critical need and a challenge to our future economic vitality in the world market.

Eligibility
Candidates for an AABE scholarship must meet the following eligibility criteria:
• Have, minimally, an overall “B” unweighted academic average (3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale).

Greetings from Rome! John Cabot University cordially invites all AP Art History teachers to our campus in the heart of Rome, Italy for a unique professional development opportunity.

Course Description
This is an exciting time for new and experienced AP Art History teachers as we prepare for the Fall 2015 course redesign. Participants of the JCU APSI will examine the new College Board Curriculum Framework including the crucial Big Ideas, Guiding Questions, and Enduring Understanding and Essential Knowledge statements. Topics of discussion will include syllabi, online and text resources, research methodology, and assessments. We will analyze various options for organizing the course including chronological, geographic, and/or thematic groupings and we will also take a look at assessments and the new AP exam format.

The session will be presented via a variety of methods including illustrated discussions, group work, peer presentations, digital handouts, and engagement with works in the new Curriculum Framework onsite in Rome’s world class museums, monuments, churches, and archaeological sites.

Participant Outcomes

• Become familiar with the redesigned AP Art History course
• Write a customized course syllabus and pacing guide
• Access online and text based resources
• Create strategies, assessments, and research tools
• Develop and present a sample lesson based on at least one work from the new Image set
• Network with supportive AP Art History colleagues

Fee$1,900 per participant, includes class instruction, College Board workshop materials, 6 nights hotel accommodation, tour bus transportation in Rome, daily breakfast, welcome cocktail reception, farewell lunch, all museum and monument entrance fees, guided tours, and guest lectures. Register

Court Camp

Court Camp is an educational program offered each summer for children ages 14-18 who might be considering a legal system related career and/or just interested in learning more about the law and the North Carolina Judicial System. The week-long camps take place at the Mecklenburg County Courthouse.

The Trial Court Administrator’s Office is now accepting applications for one of four one-week sessions of Court Camp™, an educational program for students ages 14-18 who are interested in learning about the North Carolina judicial system. There are only 15 spaces available per session.

Dyson School that offers undergraduates a top-ranked business, agribusiness, and applied economics education. The School of Hotel Administration (SHA) Bachelor of Science degree program is now included in Cornell University’s AACSB International accreditation. SHA is the only stand-alone hospitality school in the world to earn this designation!

Camp Grace - Summer 2015

 Each year we take a group of about 8 people from various churches and walks of life and we go to Camp Grace; a powerful Christian camp that ministers to the largest, most impoverished county of North Carolina.

We help the camp in a variety of ways that require no special skill sets or training, such as serving food to the campers, washing dishes, and working in the concession stand.  The staff is particularly appreciative of this simple ministry we perform.

Our sending church is Northside Baptist Church of Charlotte, NC, but we welcome anyone to attend our trip who has a desire to serve.

Rising sophomores, juniors and seniors are invited to apply for Wake Forest University's Summer Immersion Programs focused in Medicine, Leadership, Sports Management or Business/Entrepreneurship, which are offered at the Charlotte Campus. Each non-residential institute combines traditional and lab curriculum with organized field trips, guest lecturers and hands on activities.
