Wake Forest University - Program for Juniors


This year-long program is for high school juniors. It is the College LAUNCH for Leadership.

College LAUNCH for Leadership...

  • is a FREE program offered by Wake Forest University at the Wake Forest Charlotte Center in Uptown Charlotte 
  • targets racially, ethnically, and economically diverse populations; and those historically underrepresented in higher education (e.g. first-generation college students, undocumented immigrants, etc.)
  • requires students to attend Saturday Summits at the Wake Forest Charlotte Center, once-per-month from September 2018 – May 2019
  • applications are available here. *Only rising-juniors may apply*
Applications are due by September 7, 2018

Students will...

  • engage with community leaders in various industries –  medicine, education, law, nonprofits, journalism, entrepreneurship, public advocacy, and much more!
  • design a research study or social action intended to raise awareness, impact, or solve a social issue of their choice (e.g. education reform, community-police relations, immigration policy, LGBTQ rights, women’s rights, voting rights, mass incarceration, etc.)
  • discover connections between their career aspirations and passion for social change
  • interact with Wake Forest University students, faculty, and staff to prepare for college applications, college or job interviews, completing the FAFSA, and applying for scholarships
  • develop a sense of critical and social consciousness

College Reps at Northside Christian

College Representatives

College Representatives will begin visiting Northside in September. This is a perfect opportunity for juniors and seniors to explore an unfamiliar college. All high school students are welcome to attend. Juniors are required to choose and attend 4 visits and seniors are required to attend each visit scheduled. The reps will attend during the high school lunch time and will be in the Students Activity Center (SAC). Students will bring their lunch to the SAC during this time.

Free College Fairs

College Fairs - Both are free events!

National College Fair - Charlotte Christian will host the annual National Christian College Fair on Monday, September 24th from 6-8 p.m. Charlotte Christian is located at 7301 Sardis Road, Charlotte, NC 28270. For more information and to get the student barcode, please go ChristianCollegeFairs.com.  There will be over 40 colleges and universities attending!

Performing and Visual Arts College Fair - The NACAC College Fair will be on October 30, 2018 from 7-9 p.m. at The Park Expo & Conference Center. For more information, Please go tonacacfairs.org/pva-charlotte.

Financial aid forms; what are they and should you file them? In this workshop, Ryan Clark will help you understand the different financial forms and their requirements. You’ll also talk about when you may not want to file a financial aid form. You’ll discuss income and assets that have to be reported and those that don’t and also review filing deadlines. Reservations Required! Limited to the first 20 families. University of NC launches new VR app

UNC SYSTEM LAUNCHES FIRST-IN-NATION VIRTUAL REALITY TECHNOLOGY TO IMPROVE COLLEGE ACCESS

The University of North Carolina System has unveiled a new app that will allow users to take immersive virtual reality tours of each of the UNC System’s 16 universities. This innovative initiative, made possible through the Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) NC program, marks the first wide-scale use of virtual reality to promote and facilitate college access.
