Sweet Briar College - High School Girls

Sweet Briar launches Explore Entrepreneurship

Weekend for high school girls

Sweet Briar is launching an addition to its popular Explore Weekend series of events for high school sophomore, junior and senior girls: Explore Entrepreneurship, Oct. 26-27.
“Many of the world’s problems and game-changing products started out as ideas written on the backs of napkins,” says Timothy Schauer, associate professor of business and director of the new weekend event. “This event gives high school girls the opportunity to brainstorm ideas and explore what is possible.”
Attendees will work in teams with Sweet Briar professors and business students in a hands-on, fun environment. After brainstorming, they’ll analyze the feasibility of their ideas, develop a business model, and prepare and perform a pitch. It will be a memorable experience that will give participants a foundation in solving problems, exploring their interests, developing new ideas and creating value.
Outside of class, attendees will stay in one of Sweet Briar’s historic residence halls with business student mentors, explore campus and get a taste of college life.
The weekend gets started on Friday, Oct. 26, with an optional campus tour at 4 p.m. followed by dinner and a program introduction. Throughout the day on Saturday, Oct. 27, attendees will do group work. No experience is needed to participate. At the end of Saturday, teams of students will present their business models to family and friends.
The cost of the event is $90 and includes room and board, snacks, supplies and a T-shirt. Register online by Oct. 1 for highest priority. Space is limited.
Visit sbc.edu/explore for more information about the other Explore events this year or contact Rebecca Girten at 434-381-6447 or rgirten@sbc.edu.

UNC Chapel Hill

UNC Chapel Hill has made a decision to no longer defer students who apply by Carolina's Early Action deadline. Instead students will receive one of three decisions: admitted, denied, or waitlisted.

Here is an easy resource for you that explains what this change might mean to students. We've developed a list of frequently asked questions about the waitlist, with more details about why we're making this change and how we hope it can provide clarity for students and help them make the best decisions they can for their futures.

Sincerely,

Office of Undergraduate Admissions
