Summer Opportunities & Scholarships

CyberStart America
This opportunity provides high school students in North Carolina the chance to explore careers in cybersecurity by participating in CyberStart America, a free online cybersecurity competition sponsored by the National Cyber Scholarship Foundation and SANS Institute. Any NC student in grades 9-12 can discover their aptitude for cybersecurity and computer science while also earning chances to win college scholarships. Atrium Health Summer Teen Volunteer Program
This program’s focus is to provide students with education and experience in a hospital setting through volunteer service and informative learning sessions. The application for this opportunity is currently open and closes on March 1st. 

Horatio Alger State Scholarship
This scholarship is open to high school juniors in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The website includes details of the scholarship and eligibility requirements. The application closes on March 15th. 

2022 Veterinary and Wild Animal Science Camps
The NC Zoo is hosting several summer camps for high school students who are interested in pursuing careers in the veterinary field. The website includes descriptions of each camp, deadlines, and additional information. 

Write Away
This digitally-based digital literacy mentorship program is open to grade 6-12 students from across the country to be paired with a college student mentor to enhance digital writing skills. Students are eligible to participate in this free program if they attend a Title 1 school or if they receive free or reduced-price lunch. The mentee application can be found here and is due on Feb. 15th.
