Community Service Opportunity


iCan Shine (formerly, Lose The Training Wheels) is a national charitable nonprofit organization. We collaborate with local organizations and individuals, we refer to as our program ‘hosts’, to conduct over 100 five-day iCan Bike programs in 32 States and 3 Provinces in Canada serving nearly 3,000 people with disabilities each year.

The event will be held in Charlotte from June 22-26th at the Charlotte Expo Center.

The Charlotte Chorale is looking for volunteers to work at ice cream carts throughout the Wells Fargo Championship May 13th-May 17th. Volunteers may sign up for one or multiple days. You must be at least 16 years old. See Mrs. Larsen for more details.

Wake Forest Summer Immersion Program

 This summer, Wake Forest University will kick off its inaugural Summer Immersion Program in uptown Charlotte. Programs include Sports Management, Leadership and Business. Each week-long institute will provide students with the invaluable opportunity to dive deep and explore a particular topic of interest.

Wake Forest's College Launch for Leadership

We are looking for high potential, first generation, college bound students within the Charlotte area to participate in our FREE nine month program held one Saturday per month at the Charlotte Campus. All programming will operate from September through May. 

Students will participate in a series of interactive workshops including: 
  • College Preparation
  • Leadership Development
  • The Value of a Liberal Arts Education
  • Careers in Accounting & Finance
  • Preparing your Global Mindset
  • Technology & Innovation 
  • Discover WFU Day on the Wake Forest main campus in Winston Salem, NC!

Redesigned PSAT Practice Test

Redesigned PSAT/NMSQT® Practice Test Now Available

The redesigned PSAT/NMSQT will be offered for the first time this October. To help students prepare, we've released a full-length practice PSAT/NMSQT. Paper copies of the practice exam will be mailed to NCA this summer as part of the PSAT/NMSQT Student Guide, but for schools and students who want a head start, head to collegeboard.org/psatpractice to download a complete exam as well as answers and rationales.

I'm First! Scholarship

The I'm First! Scholarship is a $4,000 scholarship ($1,000 per year, renewable for four years of college) awarded to up to 10 graduating high school seniors who will be the first in their family to go to college and are planning to attend a CSO College Partner institution.

Scholarship winners have the unique privilege to serve as bloggers on ImFirst.org to share their college experiences and offer advice to aspiring first-generation college students on how to make it to and through college.

Ideal candidates will display the follow qualities:
  • Seeking financial aid and scholarship support for college
  • Strong writing skills and unique perspective
  • Strong capacity for reflection for blogging
  • Experience with or commitment to community service
  • Leadership experience
  • Commitment to helping expand educational opportunities for other first-generation students 
Scholarship winners are not selected based on academic qualifications such as GPA, SAT/ACT scores or intended majors

Undocumented students are eligible and strongly encouraged to apply!

Charlotte Knights Scholarships for Healthcare and STEM

The Charlotte Knights have announced their 2015 Scholarships!

In an effort to improve educational funding for high school students who are interested in pursuing a career in health care, the Charlotte Knights and Carolinas HealthCare System will once again provide three $1,000 college scholarships to local high school seniors in 2015.
The Knights and Piedmont Natural Gas also will award three $1,000 college scholarships to high school seniors from the Charlotte region who plan to attend college and pursue studies in the STEM disciplines of science, technology, engineering or math.
