Standardized Testing Update

Below is an update from Columbia University regarding their standardized testing requirements.
Juniors, be sure to research the requirements for the schools to which you plan to apply!

Greetings from Morningside Heights!

As your juniors begin to engage more meaningfully with their college search, we wanted to make sure that you are familiar with Columbia's revised standardized testing requirements:
  • Columbia will no longer require the writing section on either the SAT or ACT exam.
  • Candidates applying for entry in Fall 2017 or Fall 2018 may choose to submit scores from either the newly redesigned SAT or the former iteration. When evaluating applicants, we will consider only the highest testing results ("super score") reported from one version of the test, not across both versions.
  • Candidates will no longer be required to submit scores from SAT Subject Tests.
Standardized tests are simply one component of our holistic admissions review, in which quantitative credentials are assessed within the broader context of an applicant's interests, background, personal qualities and accomplishments. We hope the increased flexibility with our application will ease some of the stress students may feel when going through the college admissions process.

We are so grateful for all the work you do on behalf of students and we look forward to collaborating with you again in the future.

Best wishes,

Jessica Marinaccio
